FRANCOIS DESPLANCHES, Wickerweaver, Dordogne
In 1999, after the tempest that devastated the west of France and fell down a lot of trees, François Desplanches began to learn the art of wickerwork. From that first approach and inspired by the materials collected during his walks, François Desplanches kept a great spontaneity.
During many years, he worked as an environmental engineer before becoming a wickerworker. As an autodidact, he learnt this trade on a book about the art wickerworker Guy Barbier’s creations. He shares his experience with other artisans, such as Robert Loussouarm or David Drew with whom he shares a fondness for classical forms and local technics.
To be able to work with the best materials and the tints he loves best, François Desplanches, created his own oseraie. So he can follow the whole cycle of fabrication and he has a particular relation with the wicker he grows, gathers and prepares himself.
François Desplanches’work is a permanent research of beauty and perfection of useful objects.
